Salon Suite Franchise vs Salon Booth Rental

Sumiko Chadwell • January 30, 2024

There are thousands of salon businesses throughout the country. A portion of these salons are private, and others are franchises. As a potential franchisee, you might be wondering where Mimosa Salon Suites fits into this complex. Well, Mimosa lies right in the middle of the two. While Mimosa is a salon franchise, we are also an establishment designed for small business ownership to take place. Our franchisees are responsible for leasing out our affordable luxury salon suites to ambitious salon owners. Salon owners can include services such as hair styling, nail services, massage therapy, braiding, cosmetics, and many others included in the beauty industry. As a franchisee, you will be leasing private salon suites instead of renting salon booths.

The leasing of salon suites will be your main selling point because there are several benefits to this option over salon booths with strict limitations. The beauty industry is continuing to grow despite the economic hardships, resulting in a high demand from beauty professionals. Now is a pivotal moment because professionals are making the decision to branch out, and lease vs rental will be weighing on their expansion plans. Franchising with Mimosa allows you to offer the higher quality space for a comparable price.

Below we will discuss why Mimosa Salon Suites is a franchise superior to other salon franchises only offering booths. These will be the same factors that a franchisee will utilize to bring in beauty professionals as long-term tenants.

Flexible Schedules

At standardized salons, the schedule for operations is usually set in stone. Also, when walk-in or new customers arrive, there is likely a schedule for who gets the client. These are just a couple time restrictions that a salon professional can encounter with a booth rental. At Mimosa, we allow our business owners 24-hour access to the site. They are permitted to serve their customers during non-traditional times to better accommodate special circumstances. Along with 24-hour access, comes security systems and coded entries. A flexible schedule really puts the business into the salon professionals’ hands and gives them a sense of independence while not having the costly bill of security. It also puts no limitations on the number of clients they would like to serve each day.

Product Sales

With salon services always comes salon products. At traditional booth rentals, the products being sold are usually previously decided on by the salon manager or the stylist is only getting around 10% commission off the sale. This issue deters salon professionals from personalizing their product sales or creating new products on their own. At the Mimosa Salon Suites franchise, our salon professionals get to keep 100% commission from products and services. This opportunity opens new doors for our salon owners and can be a deal breaker when it comes to leasing.

Personal Branding

The opportunity to have a personalized space and brand is perhaps the most exciting perk to studio rentals. Each suite is its own private space, with a door and four walls! Our tenants get to choose the wall color and décor style for their suite and make their vision come alive. One of the more beautiful aspects of our franchise is the diversity you will see. Each stylist has their own style and the freedom of expression creates a wonderful sense of community. For many salon professionals, this is the accommodation they’ve been dreaming of but could not afford. For the same price as a booth rental, Mimosa makes the small business endeavor possible!

Entrepreneurship

Mimosa Salon Suites attract entrepreneurs from all walks of life and an array of different talents. What all of our tenants will have in common is the determination to be successful. When a salon stylist invests in creating their own small business and developing a brand, they are moving up in the ranks. It will be likely that they have spent a great deal of time perfecting their service in order to get to this transition. This creates a powerful atmosphere in the franchise. When you step inside Mimosa, you will witness motivation and determination in our tenants and understand why our franchise remains successful and ongoing. Becoming a franchisee for Mimosa Salon Suites will allow you to offer the perfect deal in an industry experiencing one of the highest demands in the country!

In 2022, our country saw the inflation rate peak to 9.1%. Overall, 2022 averaged at 6.5% which is still three times the Federal governments target of just 2%. Americans across the country felt the hardships of inflation as they witnessed food and gas prices soaring into alarming prices. In the salon industry, prices also increased for both services and products. However, this increase did not hinder the upward growth of the industry. The beauty industry market continued to rise and is anticipated to continue rising by at least 6.85% for the next 3 years. Studies showed that factors such as the Lipstick Effect played a key role in keeping the industry afloat despite the economical struggles. Generation Z and Millennials also contributed to the growth with their trending interests in health, wellness, and cosmetics. Read more about these phenomena on our blog entries, The Lipstick Effect and Beauty Demands from Millennials and Generation Z . The Mimosa Salon Suites franchise experienced little to no conflict from the recession and ironically was able to provide support to struggling entrepreneurs. Our suites are highly competitive in the growing industry because they are low cost and high end. Our leasing fees compare to a salon booth yet are less expensive than other luxury suite franchises. Mimosa Salon Suites are on of a kind!

Mimosa’s story starts with Douglas Hauptman, a businessman who identified a problem in most markets: the inability of local stylists to bring their clients to a place that was both classy and affordable.

First, I can assure you that this article will not be about the product lipstick. The Lipstick Effect is a scientifically studied phenomenon relating economic hardship to people’s tendency to purchase items and services that enhance their appearance. Another significant detail in this theory is that the focus is not on high cost luxury goods such as expensive procedures or a diamond watch. The goods being referred to are low cost luxury goods. These include spendy hair and skins products, high end cosmetics, professional salon services, and so forth. In summary, it has been proven through economic studies that people spend more money on low cost luxury goods during times of national financial hardships. Many business investors have the possibility of recession weighing on their minds following the chaos caused by the pandemic and recent inflation. Mimosa Salon Suites would like to educate potential franchisees on the Lipstick Effect because it directly relates back to our franchise potential. The term Lipstick Effect first originated in 2007 by Estee Lauder. It was found that consumers were driven towards “pick me ups” when the economy was unstable. Experts reported that consuming small inexpensive luxury goods provided people with a sense of satisfaction that they were unable to buy in other ways during difficult periods of time. Even during the pandemic when masks were mandated, nail polish and perfume sales continued to rise while lipstick became virtually unnoticed. This is important to note because the name of the effect can bring too much conclusion on lipstick alone when the factor includes a broad spectrum of low-cost luxury goods and services.

While there is no exact method to calculate the success rate of franchise investments, a quick review of studies will prove it to be quite impressive! According to About.com, “Some studies show that franchises have a success rate of approximately 90 percent as compared to only about 15 percent for businesses that are started from the ground up. The increased probability of success usually far outweighs any initial franchise fee and nominal royalties that are paid monthly." In this article, we will discuss the benefits of franchising and why it has an attractive success rate. Benefits contribute to lessoning the potential risks that you could experience when diving into the goal of running your own business from scratch. We will also discuss how Mimosa Salon Suites integrates these benefits into our franchise opportunity. Franchising and entrepreneurship are both business investments but entirely different in their dynamics. To learn more about the difference between the two, please see our blog Franchising Versus Entrepreneurship.
